Point of Palms was built in 1923 by Dr. Fred Albee and his wife Louella as their home on Dona Bay in Nokomis. This Mediterranean Revival home has a stucco facade with a clay tile roof. There are multiple arched openings, and it has a symmetrical facade. The side elevation features a porte cochere to the rear.
The home is privately owned and is suffering from neglect. Given the desirable waterfront location and lack of designation, this puts it at high risk of demolition.
Dr. Albee first came to the area in 1917 and stayed in the Maine Colony with a friend. It was on that short first visit that he purchased the entirety of Nokomis. Shortly thereafter, he purchased Venice. He hired fellow Harvard graduate John Nolen to create the plan for the City of Venice and brought in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers to create it. He opened the first hospital in 1933 in the Park View Hotel.
